Read 'santa bearclaus t'was the strike before christmas' and make a surprise snowman to take to grandas tomorrow
it was a little daunting. I decided to take a different approach, in the past we read the story then did the craft but today I decided to save the story for bedtime.
First we took Donald to drama, then Joy to dance. afterwards we went home for lunch, we had about 2 hours before we needed to get Donald to the arts guild so I got everything we needed for our surprise snowman and Daddy started lunch and Teo helped daddy in the kitchen since this project was a little too complicated for him.
We took 2 quality street sweets laid them on some paper and wrapped them into a ball
Added some sellotape to hold the ball together then dabbed a bit of glue onto the paper.
then we glued some cotton wool onto the ball.
Things were a bit chaotic Donald and Joy kept complaining about it being too hard so we formerd an assembly line. Donald wrapped the sweets..
Joy glued the paper and I stuck the cotton wool to the balls. The snowman was coming together much faster now. when we had enough snowballs for the bottom I cut a pair of Joys old tights into a scarf and put it onto the snowman then stuck some pipecleaners into the middle for arms.
Now we had a headless snowman! Back to work making snowballs (after a break for lunch) Finally we had a head! I got some green pom poms for eyes some red pom poms to add to the body for buttons and I cut a santa hat down to size for him. But I couldn't find our orange construction paper to make a carrot nose! Eventually I came up with the genius idea to paint some white paper orange and we had a nose! our snowman was ready and full of surprises!
I think he looks more like a melted snowman but I don't mind, it's a wonderful snowman and we did really well working together!
I can hardly wait until tomorrow so we can take it to grandas and let everyone take a surprise snowball from it!
After our snowman was finished we took Donald to the arts guild to see the panto with anchor boys. Today was a very busy day for them, after all that they were happy to snuggle into bed and listen to 'twas the strike before christmas'
This was another story Donald and Joy got one year from my friend Krystal. They all sat together in Donalds bed and I read them the story about the year when the reindeer told the elves they werent as important and the elves went on strike.
a wonderful way to end a wonderful day.
